Maurice "Mo" Eugene Evans (born November 8, 1978) is from Wichita, Kansas. Mo's collegiate career was split between two schools, Wichita State University (1997-99) and the University of Texas (2000-01), where he led the longhorns in scoring, steals, and three-point percentage. Currently Mo is with the Washington Wizards.
Mo, who was not selected in the 2001 NBA Draft, signed as a free agent in 2001-02 with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Mo made a name for himself in Europe. In 2002 he joined the Greece basketball team Olympiacos B.C. During the 2003-04 season he played with Benetton Treviso in Italy where he helped his team win the Italian Cup and was named Eurobasket All-League Player of the Year.
Mo returned to the NBA in 2004 by joining the Sacramento Kings. In 2005 he signed with the Detroit Pistons as a free agent. In 2006 the Pistons traded Mo to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played back up to Kobe Bryant. During the 2007 season Mo was traded from the Lakers to the Orlando Magic, where he became starting shooting guard, contributed to the team's 52-30 record, and started in all 10 games for the Magic in the 2008 Playoffs. In 2008 Mo signed with the Atlanta Hawks, contributing in major Atlanta Hawks victories both defensively and offensively.
In 2011 the Washington Wizards received Mo in a team trade with the Atlanta Hawks. Mo is a valuable veteran in Washington, as well as a versatile, scoring presence on the court.
Evans joined Team Converse in October 2006 and has since ingrained himself in the Converse Open Gym program in Atlanta, making several appearances to meet and interact with the local youth. Evans wears the Converse Star Player Evo shoe on court.
Mo is a strong leader off the court as well. He is a vice president on the National Basketball Players Association executive committee, serving as a voice for all the NBA players.
In 2011 Evans started the Mo Mentorship program in Atlanta, Georgia. The program's main goal is to expose at-risk males to a variety of positive influences and life-changing challenges.
